Each has its place. Outlet-style is simple and puts the reset within reach; breaker-style protects the entire circuit and suits garages and exterior runs. An electrician can look at your panel and your circuits and tell you which approach fits each location.
Adding GFCI protection is one of the most affordable safety upgrades in electrical work: a device swap here, a breaker there, usually done in a single visit. On older two-wire circuits without a ground, GFCI protection is also the code-recognized way to add three-prong outlets safely — labeled, legal, and genuinely protective.
It's the rare project where the cost is small, the work is fast, and the protection is immediate. If your home's bathrooms have the buttons but the garage, kitchen, and exterior don't, that's the list to close.
